A Fairytale Walk Through the Town
On a walk through Slovenia’s oldest town during the festive season, you’ll be captivated by the magnificent, illuminated Ptuj Castle viewed through the Ptuj Ring sculpture. Stroll through the decorated town, passing Minoritski, Mestni, Novi, and Slovenski trg squares, as well as the town market, where adorned Christmas trees and enchanting photo spots await – with Santa, a polar bear, a festive bench, and a carriage with reindeer. You can also make your way up to Ptuj Castle, a stunning vantage point over the entire festive Ptuj.
This year, we’re adding new light elements to the holiday decorations while maintaining the thematic continuity that highlights the magic of the holiday atmosphere. The trees at the marketplace will have a fresh new look, and you’ll discover a new photo spot for unforgettable family photos. The tree at the Evropark will take on a festive appearance this year, and the beloved reindeer and polar bear will be dressed in new holiday attire. Important town buildings will be adorned with new light curtains. The youngest visitors will also have a special surprise awaiting them, revealed at the lighting ceremony when Ptuj begins to glow in holiday splendor on 2 December.
The decorations are thoughtfully designed with sustainability in mind – all lights are energy-efficient LEDs, and we’ve used durable materials to refurbish older elements, ensuring the decorations last for many years to come.
Holiday Stalls and the Lokalko Fairytale Market
You won’t only be enchanted by the lights of the oldest town but also by the aromas of the season, bringing the warmth and atmosphere of December festivities.
Every afternoon and evening, you can stroll among the holiday stalls at the Mestni trg square and the town Marketplace, where the scents of mulled wine, tea, hot chocolate, and other winter treats will fill the air, warming and delighting our taste buds. On special evenings, the holiday stalls will stay open late into the night, creating a cozy outdoor ambiance.
The Lokalko Fairytale Market will enliven the Miklošičeva ulica street with unique handcrafted items by local artisans, available in the opening week and during the last three weekends of December in the late afternoons.
Festive Cuisine
December delights us with special holiday cuisine from Ptuj’s local restaurants. Treat yourself to a glass of sparkling wine, your favorite wine or beer, try a new dish, and indulge in your favorite pastry, cake, dessert, or handmade pralines.
