DAYS OF POETRY AND WINE
A poetry festival that pays equal tribute to wine. A festival that delights, surprises, bewitches.
The charm of the Days of Poetry and Wine, which has developed into one of the most important international poetry festivals in this part of Europe over a quarter of a century, lies not only in the best wines from across Slovenia presented on the wine altar and the ceremonial transformation of Ptuj’s old town with verses and art installations, but also in the flow of new inspirations and ideas.
The festival is all around. It can be found also in the hidden gardens, courtyards and other corners of Ptuj, where you can meet poets and have a chat with them.
Most of the festival’s events are free and are held in both Slovenian and English.
In addition to the two guests of honor, Swiss poet Ilma Rakusa and Lithuanian poet Eugenijus Ališanka, this year’s festival will also feature 18 poets from all over the world, whose selected poems will be published in poetry books. This year’s Open Letter to Europe will be written by the world-renowned English poet, novelist and playwright David Harsent.
